Thanks, Zen - I appreciate the encouragement. I've been very slack and preoccupied lately, but I'm going to give myself a good smack!

So nice to see you back here Guybrush! I've missed your wonderful stories. I tend to a similar approach to cooking as you - I mean god invented frozen dinners for a damn good reason. Why cook when you can press a few buttons on the microwave.

Lovely to hear there are other mothers out there with family members prone to the 'poke'n'sniff' method of food appreciation! (I always tell them nobody ever died yet ...) When someone does, Rocco's mother will admit defeat and hang up the meat cleaver for good ...

I absolutely second Alan Rickman as an epitome of HOT. You and I share a culinary adventurousness of the sort, "Might be nice to try this?" Also, some ingredient warnings do slip by my eyes at times with some surprisingly dramatic results at the dinner table - positively Shakespearian emoting by the diners, world class stuff. There is a lot of tentative poking and sniffing at food at my table; people have learned caution, the hard way. Yet they all must be masochists, as no-one ever refuses an invite for dinners. Rocco, your fledgling, might also have masochistic tendencies. Nice of him to acknowledge the added ingredient of plastic strip to his lunchtime fare.
This was a delightful read, and i shall be chuckling for a long time. You might want to consider pulling together a collection of short stories, called, aptly, "Rocco's Mother". You may have a best-seller on your hands. G
